Waiata Practice with Callan James

All-inclusive sing-along. 28th September.

All are invited to join Wellington takataapui musician Callan James for a sing-along at Te Waka Huia Wellington Museum.  

Callan will be playing guitar and leading you through a range of waiata in te reo māori to tunes that will be familiar to most. All levels of musicality and te reo are welcome. Song sheets will be available. 

Nau mai, haere mai, and rock up to Waiata Practice with Callan James in the Te-Whanganui-a-Tara exhibition space.

Meet your host: 

Callan James (Ngā Puhi), is an indigenous takataapui singer/songwriter based in Upper Hutt, Wellington. He studied Commercial Music at Massey University and is currently Kaiako Reo Maori for Upper Hutt College. 

In 2021, Callan reached the semi-finals on season one of ‘5 Minutes of Fame’, sharing the stage with big home artists Pere and Ardijah. Callan recently performed in a two-week sell-out season of musical, The Prom as part of the Upper Hutt Musical Theatre.
